Specialty Draws & Collection Kits
Some collections call for more than a standard tube and a steady hand. When your provider orders a specialty kit or a complex draw, we handle it to their exact protocol — carefully labeled, correctly handled, and delivered where it needs to go.
What it is
A specialty draw is any collection that goes beyond a routine venipuncture because of the tubes, handling, timing, or technique it requires. That includes provider-supplied collection kits and send-out kits, specialty tubes with specific additives, samples that must be kept at a particular temperature or protected from light, timed and multi-tube draws, and chain-of-custody collections. Expedient Phlebotomy Services performs the collection to your ordering provider’s specifications and delivers the specimen to their partner laboratory, which performs the actual testing. We do not run tests or produce results — our job is a precise, correctly handled collection.
Who it’s for
Specialty draws are for anyone whose provider has ordered a test that comes with its own kit or special handling instructions, or who has veins that need extra experience and patience. If you’ve been handed a kit to bring to a lab, have a hard-stick history, or need several tubes drawn in a specific order or on a specific schedule, this is the service for you. Mention the details when you book so we arrive prepared with the right approach.
What to expect during the visit
Your phlebotomist will confirm your identity and review your lab order and any kit instructions before starting. We follow the provider’s protocol precisely — the correct tubes in the correct order, careful attention to any temperature, light-protection, or timing requirements, and meticulous labeling at your side. For chain-of-custody or send-out kits, we complete the required paperwork and packaging so nothing is missed. Once collected, the specimen is prepared and handled according to instructions and delivered to the partner laboratory.
How to prepare
- Have your lab order or requisition ready — we cannot draw without one.
- Bring out any collection kit your provider gave you, along with its instruction sheet.
- Follow any fasting or timing instructions tied to your specific test.
- Drink water beforehand if you’re allowed to — good hydration makes veins easier to access.
- Have a photo ID available so we can confirm your identity.
We focus on a careful, unhurried draw performed to your provider’s protocol. Our goal is a comfortable experience and a clean, correctly handled specimen every time.
Pricing
A specialty draw is $65 per visit. Travel, after-hours, and location surcharges may apply and are always disclosed before we arrive. After-hours and weekend visits add a $35.00 surcharge (anything outside 7:30 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday).
